HLB Ashvir has bagged the HLB International’s “1 Campaign” award at the recently held HLB International conference in Ho Cho Min City, Vietnam. The award was launched in 2006 to recognise HLB member firms who have demonstrated a high level of commitment in promoting the HLB brand and its global initiatives. The winners were selected by conference delegates from over 25 entries submitted by HLB member firms in over 100 countries. HLB Ashvir was declared the winner based on the firm’s efforts in building recognition and reputation in the Kenyan market. HLB Van Daal & Partners from Netheralnds and HLB Mann Judd took the joint runners up position.

The managing partner Ashif Kassam said that “winning this award is a great achievement for a newly established firm and is one more important step in the attainment of our vision which is to be a leading Pan-African professional services firm, with international affiliation, recognised for its ethics, values and professionalism with a strong culture of personalised and partner-led quality service, supported by investment in its human capital and technology”.

In conformity with its vision “to be a leading Pan-African professional services firm, with international affiliation, recognised for its ethics, values and professionalism with a strong culture of personalised and partner-led quality service, supported by investment in its human capital and technology” HLB Ashvir has established an office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The office, which will be fully operational by 1st August 2007, will provide a comprehensive range of audit, tax and consulting services.

The Tanzanian operations will be headed by Ms. Lina Ratansi. Lina possesses a B.Com in Finance from the University of Bombay, India and is a fellow of the Certified Public Accountants, Tanzania. HLB Ashvir formally handed over the Audit Manuals developed by the firm to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and HLB International at a colourful presentation ceremony at the Nyama Choma Ranch, Safari Park Hotel on Thursday 19th April 2007. The function was graced by the presence of his Hon. Amos Kimunya, the Minister for Finance for Kenya and Peter Frost, the Chief Executive of HLB International.

HLB Ashvir had been contracted by ICPAK to develop an Audit Manual and a Model Audit File under a project which has been funded by the First Initiative, an arm of the World Bank. The objective of the Manual is to enhance the audit and assurance capacities of small and medium sized practitioners in Kenya. This is the first time that such a project has been undertaken by an Institute in Africa. The Audit Manual which will be available to accountants in public practice sets the minimum benchmark for the conduct of audits in Kenya. The Manual, which is fully compliant with International Standards on Auditing, will not only enhance the quality of audits, but will go a long way in developing the audit capacity of small and medium sized practitioners in the country. The Manual will help these practitioners provide high quality audit services comparable to that offered by the larger firms.

The HLB International Audit Manual will be used by all member firms of HLB International as the minimum benchmark for audit and assurance services, bearing the local professional requirements and legislation. This is the first time that a global Audit Manual for an international accounting network has been developed in Africa and in particular, Kenya.

HLB International, founded in 1969, is ranked amongst the top 12 accounting and business advisory groups worldwide. It has member firms in 100 countries supported by over 1,750 partners and 12,000 staff in 440 offices.
